How accurate are online price estimates?

I keep seeing "fair value" estimates on car sites. How much should I trust them when negotiating?

Treat them as a strong anchor, not gospel. A good model lands within ~10-15% on typical cars; condition and history still move the final number. Use it to know when a listing is clearly under or over priced.
